Primarily an installation and collage artist, Martin (Marty) creates art that brings aesthetic order to his daily experience. He collects multiples of everyday objects such as rubber bands, recycled paper strips, and thread spools to create his art. He then painstakingly organizes the objects before fixing them with wire, paint, glue or tape to create large scale, multi-dimensional objects.
Marty’s creative process is very intense; he often works all day without interruption. He manipulates his materials in ritualistic, repetitive practices, building layer upon layer. His method is improvised, yet meticulous. What begins as one object becomes a pile of objects which becomes a sculpture. The finished works are the result of a totally unique artistic vision. They are usually abstract, starkly monochromatic and startlingly contemporary.
He has exhibitied his work at Outside the Lines Gallery, Bizarre Bazaar, Somerville Open Studios, West Medford Open Studios, the 306 Gallery in Jamaica Plain, True Grounds Café, and at It’s a Gift, an Outsider Art Gallery in Somerville. MA.
